A Friend
of the Foundation is anyone who has given their time to us, be it through
participating in a planned volunteer day, helping with administrative
duties, or performing at a benefit concert or after an event.
Despite the
popularity of the phrase "time is money", we feel that time is, actually,
more valuable than money, for a donation of time is akin to investing
your whole being mind, heart, spirit, and body in a cause
in which you believe; and the return on that investment is usually priceless.
Your physical presence also clearly sends a message to others that something
worthwhile is occurring.
The whole
idea of bringing people together, particularly in this age of computers
and "tele-commuting" is a major focus of the EDAF, which is why our events
usually last a full day, if not a full weekend, even if the actual volunteer
portion lasts only a few hours. We often hold Living Room Concerts (LRC's)
in conjuction with a volunteer or donation event, and have been lucky
enough to be entertained on this intimate level by incredibly talented
musicians such as Randi Driscoll, Jason Mraz, and Joy Eden Harrison (for
more information on these and other terrific entertainers who have donated
their time to us, visit our Artists page).
If you put
10 twenty dollar bills in a room together, it's pretty safe to say nothing
will get accomplished. But if you put 10 people in a room together, there's
very little that could NOT be accomplished. It is not enough to say that
our Friends are an important part of the Foundation. To a great degree,
our Friends are the Foundation.
